2005

Make Me 2005 - 12th November 2005 to 5th February 2006

Design Initiative, in partnership with Manchester Art Gallery unwrapped a series of special craft and design events beginning on Saturday 12 November. For this fifth fabulous year, Make Me was once more an opportunity to see and to shop for some of the region's finest design ware.

Make Me C in partnership with Manchester Art Gallery, Make Me C featured nine of the region's leading designers and makers of contemporary craft. The exhibition spanned a range of media from ceramics to furniture through to paper and glass, revealing the processes that go into creating such covetable items, enabling buyers (and browsers) to understand the absolutely unique nature of contemporary craft.

Work by Jon Male, Stella Corrall, Ruth Moilliet, Studio 24, Damian Cruikshank, Halima Cassell, Lyn Setterington, Martin Lungley and Brian Taylor was featured in the show.

A selection of individual limited edition items from Manchester designer-makers were available in the Manchester Art Gallery shop and Make Me C hosted its very own evening special shopping event at Manchester Art Gallery with artist demonstrations, music and refreshments.

Make Me SUSpend
CAST, Thomas Street, Manchester.
Friday 18 November 05 - Sunday 4 December 05
From the Arts Council, England - North West Setting Up Scheme (that
puts the SUS in suspend!), ten emerging designer-makers (and friends)
exhibited their wares in the CAST design outlet located in Manchester's
Northern Quarter for 17 days. Featured Artists: Benjamin Perry: product designer, Lucy May Schofield: book artist, Rowena Ardern: embroidery, Paula Carley: digital prints, Aileen Collis: canvases, Michelle Brand: environmentally friendly product design, Peter Masters: award-winning furniture designer, Alena Asenbryl: jewellery, Hannah Gibson: books and badge sets, iPod covers, purses and wrist bands, Tim Parsons: product designer (ceramics), Jason Taylor: product designer (lighting), Hannah Tofalos: ceramicist

Some of these products were also available to peruse and purchase at
www.makemebuydesign.co.uk The website was launched on 12th November and was the pilot version of Design Initiative's e-commerce site, allowing designers to sell their work via the internet.

Make Me 2005 was supported and funded by European Union Regional
Development Fund, Arts Council, England - North West, Manchester Art
Gallery, Manchester City Council and the project was organised by
Design Initiative. The exhibition catalogue was designed and produced
by Reform Creative. The exhibition was curated by Manchester Art
Gallery, Barney Hare-Duke, the shop was organised by Jason Taylor,
Suspend was curated and organised by Benjamin Perry and Lucy Schofield.
